Eugene Carnachan – Danny Green has annihilated living legend Roy Jones Junior. In a fight held in Sydney Australia Jones Junior came out flashing his trademark jab. Keeping the aggressive Green at bay. Green was coming forward with purpose looking to land his much improved jab. Jones was circling trying to keep Green on the outside. Green backed Jones into the corner and sent a huge right hand over the top of Jones Juniors right shoulder. Landing it flush on Jones temple. Jones went down heavy and it looked as if the fight was over after little over a minute. Jones with the help of the ropes managed to get to his feet before being counted out. Jones Junior was visibly in very bad shape.
Green came forward and backed Jones up into the ropes and unleashed with a barrage that Jones offered next to no return fire. Green kept sending them down the barrel throwing every punch in the book while bashing Jones Junior from pillar to post. The ref saw fit – and correctly so – to step in and stop the fight at the two minute mark of the first round..
A very impressive win for Green who is only two fights into a 16 month lay.
This fight may well end the career of the legendary Jones.
This fight has catapulted Green into being a global boxing currency. It was only a short time ago Shane Mosley couldn’t remember the name of Roy Jones next opponent. That opponents name – Danny Green – will now be bandied about in the boxing world over given he has stopped Jones in a fashion no fighter before him has and this a short while after Jones Junior had looked so impressive in stopping fellow American Jeff “left hook” Lacey.
For Green it sets up a number of options. One being Bernard Hopkins or the current king of the cruisers Thomas Adamek; who recently fought at heavyweight against one time force Andrew Golota.
