News: Angulo vs Rosado; Hernandez vs Jones; Dmitriy Salita

Top 10 super welterweight contender Alfredo “Perro” Angulo will return to take on power-punching Gabriel “King” Rosado 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 in the Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill’s Resort Casino. The event will be broadcast live nationally on “ESPN Friday Night Fights.” “Alfredo was disappointed in his last performance against Kermit Cintron and despite his valiant effort in the latter rounds, he had let Cintron build up too much of a lead in the early rounds,” said Gary Shaw, promoter for Alfredo Angulo. “He didn’t go home and lick his wounds and is ready to take on Gabriel. A lot of fight fans will be able to see Alfredo’s return thanks to ESPN Friday Night Fights..”

Angulo (15-1, 12 KOs), of Mexicali, Mexico, is currently world-rated number six by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the WBC, and number eight by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). His last 11 victories have been by knockout.

Rosado (12-3, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia, has won seven of his last eight fights, including decision victories over undefeated James Moore in June 2008 and former world champion Kassim Ouma last April. The six-foot right-hander is known for his effective body punching ability and ring generalship.

ESPN Friday Night Fights, presented by Primm Valley Casino Resorts, is at 6 p.m. on Aug. 7 at Buffalo Bill’s in the Star of the Desert Arena. With just four days until the main event fighters on Thompson Boxing Promotions’ July 17 “New Blood V” card square off it seems that emotions are running equally high for the main event fighters. San Diego’s experienced, Jovann Jones (9-5, 4 KOs), sent a strong message to his opponent, “Hernandez, be ready for a tough fight. I am not coming into the ring looking to dance, I’ve trained hard for this fight and am not only looking to blemish your perfect record, I’m looking to knock you out… and knock you out, I will.”

The six round main event bout headlines a six-fight card of professional boxing.

Guaranteed, I won’t the one to taste the canvas on Friday.” Hernandez, 19, is building a solid record, currently 6-0 (4 KOs), which is preceded by an impressive amateur career that includes Golden Glove titles in addition to Desert Showdown Tournament titles and the California Palace Award.

The action packed evening also includes Riverside knockout artist Alberto “The Substitute” Herrera (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. San Diego’s Steve Macomber (3-4-1) in a four round the co-main event junior middleweight bout. Albert is the youngest brother of undefeated WBC USNBC junior welterweight champ Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera, who will be cheering him on and working his corner.

In addition, the card also flaunts and exciting six rounds in the junior lightweight division when Indio, California’s Tomas Barragan (7-2-1) squares off against Durango, Mexico’s Alvaro “Cañas” Muro (5-17, 5 KOs).

Also is action, welterweight Chris Rizo (4-0, 2 KOs) and Marlo Cortez (2-7-2, 1 KO) in a four round matchup.

Opening the fight card that evening will be debuting junior lightweight Kevin Hoskins of Pomona against Keith Kelly (0-1) and first-time super bantamweight pro Jonathan Arrellano against Rufino Serrano (1-1).
