18.01.08 – By Scoop Malinowski: Andrew Golota’s quest to win the elusive world title takes another critical step on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, when he meets dangerman Mike Mollo. Golota, recently turned 40, is once again in phenomenal condition and hopes to capitalize on the impressive KO win over Kevin McBride last year, which could possibly be a springboard for a world title shot in 2008. Golota trainer Sam Colonna, who merits plenty of credit for his man’s performances against John Ruiz, Chris Byrd and McBride, fielded some questions before Thursday night’s dinner arrived.:
Question: How is everything going in New York with the one and only Andrew Golota?
Sam Colonna: Everythings seems to be okay. We’re going through our routine, just got done training, were at Casa Dente (restaurant) in New Jersey. Everything’s going to schedule.
Question: Is there bad blood between Andrew and Mike Mollo?
Sam Colonna: Not really. Andrew didn’t know who he was really until watching tape of the McBride fight to study McBride, even though they trained in the same gym, Andrew didn’t pay attention to him.
Question: What is the key to winning this fight?
Sam Colonna: We’re gonna have to fight smart, don’t just go in there and throw punches from all over the place. We have to fight smart, use our experience, and when it’s the right time to tie him up, tie him up. I would say the key would be to use the right hand, right uppercut.
Question: Andrew looks slightly lighter, true?
Sam Colonna: About the same, maybe a pound or two. He never really stopped training after the McBride fight. He took a couple of weeks off then he went skiing.
Question: Last, what can you tell Golota supporters about their man?
Sam Colonna: Andrew is taking this fight very seriously. Mike Mollo is in his way for that world title shot.
