JD Chapman Claims Gold Medalist Povetkin Ducking Him

17.02.07 – By Michael Marley, Boxingconfidential.com: Is that black and blue face the face of an undefeated professional heavyweight and a 2004 Olympic gold medalist? And the face of a 2003 amateur world champion? Actually, it is the face of Alexander V. Povetkin after he captured gold at the 2003 world tournament in Thailand. Unbeaten American heavyweight JD “The Natural” Chapman and his brassy manager, Scott Hirsch, are claiming that Sauerland Events and Povetkin weaseled out of fighting the 6-5 Chapman..

And, Chapman and Hirsch agree, that Povetkin’s bruised and battered face is nothing like the big Russian will look like after Chapman slaps around like the proverbial redheaded stepchild.

“Both sides of Povetkin’s face will look like smashed wiener schnitzel if he dares to step in the ring with Chapman,” Hirsch said. “I do not believe in hype. I can’t stand hype but JD will run through Alexander like so much sauerkraut. And don’t think that Wilfried Sauerland, Chris Meyer and their team don’t know it. They are smart boxing people. They fear the massive Chapman.”

“This guy has an impressive resume, I agree,” Arkansas state champ and WBC Latino champ Chapman told me. “But I would destroy him. I wanted to go to his house, to Germany, to rip him apart over there. They called my manager and then we accepted the fight they chickened out. I guess they made some calls and found out that I might be white but I can fight. They found out that I am a bad man with a world championship plan.”

Povetkin, 27, owns a 10-0, eight KOs record, and he will fight David Bostice on March 3 in Rostock, Germany.

Chapman, 23, who has rolled to a 25-0 record with 22 big KOs, said he is willing to pummel Povetkin anywhere.

“Maybe Povetkin would like grits and gravy, fried chicken and black eyed peas. Maybe he would like pork rinds. Maybe we can get him to come down to Arkansas. I will whip him wherever we fight…if he’s got the testicular fortitude to sign a contract.”

Hirsch refused to discuss but I hear rumors that pro wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes may become a spiritual adviser to young Chapman.

“JD has a lot of flair and I don’t mean Ric Flair,” Hirsch said. “We do consider Dusty a friend and a truly great man.”
