05.02.07 – Interview by Michael Marley, BoxingConfidential.com: ORLANDO –Leon Margules, erudite boxing barrister and the man who heads up Seminole Warriors boxing promotion, is not the sort of guy to publicly rip a fighter. He does not usually engage in hurling insults or invective. But the barrister is sending out a legal warning of sorts to mouthy super middleweight contender Allan Green.
Margules, who was a criminal defense lawyer and a good one in South Florida, said that, before his man Edison “LaPantera” Miranda fights Oklahoman Green on HBO March 3 in Puerto Rico, they might have to do what police are required to when they arrest someone in America..
“It’s a requirement under the Constitution but not in boxing,” Margueles said. “The police have to render Miranda warnings to an arrestee. Maybe I will have LaPantera issue his own Miranda Warnings to Green because I have no doubt that my guy will knock Green out. It might go four or five rounds but that is all.”
“You will see a Miranda who is better than ever. This is his fourth fight under trainer Jose Bonilla. Bonilla is a very good trainer and they are working very hard in Puerto Rico right now. I will tell you what kind of a guy Edison is. You leave him alone in his house and he will sit there all day in front of the TV watching fight tapes. He is obsessed with boxing and becoming the world champion. What happened in Germany (Arthur Abraham fight) was a negative for us, yes. We would’ve preferred to come back from Germany with an undefeated world champion but we did some smart public relations work. We took the fight tape and put it all over the internet. So we took a negative and turned it into a positive.”
Marguels said the more Green talks smack, the worse he will get smacked by Miranda.
“Let Green keep talking and talking. He is just making it worse for himself come March 3.,” Margules said.
On another topic, Margules is happy to report undefeated Jewish heavyweight Roman Greenberg will appear on the Shannon Briggs-Sultan Ibragimov WBO heavyweight title fight show March 10 at Madison Square Garden.
Seminole Warriors and Robert Waterman of England share the promotional chores for Greenberg. Margules said Greenberg, who actually lives in Israel but trains in London, will go over in New York like bagels and cream cheese.
“How can a Jewish fighter not go over big in New York? Margules asked. “He was born in Russia, moved to Austria and then to Israel. He speaks German, Russian and Hebrew and speaks them all perfectly. I think New Yorkers will like that they see with this kid. A Jewish heavyweight, no less. What, as they said in the Bronx where I grew up, is not like?”
