Cruiserweight Bobby Gunn Ranked #15 by WBO

Clearwater, FL July 25, 2006: On the heels of his IBA World Title bout, power-punching Cruiserweight Bobby Gunn received much deserved worldwide recognition by the WBO. Much like the heavy-fisted Gunn “cracks” his opponents in the ring, he has now “cracked” the World Boxing Organization’s July 2006 rankings at number 15 in the world in what the WBO calls the “Jr. Heavyweights”.. In addition to this WBO ranking, Bobby Gunn is currently ranked #1 by the Canadian Boxing Federation, #1 by the Boxing Union of Ireland, #13 by the NABA, #14 by the NABF, and #32 by the WBC.

Of course, Team Gunn is thrilled by this latest development. Bobby Gunn’s promoter, Joe “Mack” McEwen of Rock Solid Boxing commented, “We appreciate and respect the WBO and applaud their recognition of Bobby Gunn. We are totally focused on the upcoming IBA World Title fight against Shannon Landberg, but it is always nice to take a moment and realize all of Team Gunn’s efforts and hard work are finally coming to fruition. Just like the Gatti-Baldomir WBC/IBA Welterweight unification fight this past Saturday night, we are very interested in making this September 16th IBA World Title bout a unification fight as well by adding a Regional Title from the WBO to this event. I have contacted the WBO in an attempt to make that happen.”

While being recognized worldwide is always positive and exciting, Bobby Gunn is keeping his eye on the prize. Bobby Gunn’s father, the Senior Gunn who goes by the monikor “Yogi” had this to say, “Bobby is very thankful and grateful for the top 15 ranking by the WBO. We have roots and a following in Europe and we look forward to future fights across the pond. However, Bobby is really only focused on September 16, Shannon Landberg and the IBA World Championship. This opportunity that Rock Solid Boxing has presented to my boy is by far the biggest fight of his career. He is looking great in the gym and Joe Grier is training Bobby like a madman! I have never seen Bobby so sharp. He is ready and could fight tomorrow.”

With all of the recent action in the Cruiserweight division, it appears that the “Jr. Heavyweights” are on the verge of making some Heavyweight noise.
