Camarena Dominates Gonzalez

LONGMONT, Colorado (June 29, 2006) – By Moncayo Blackbull: The boxing fans in Longmont and surrounding Greater Denver area were treated to night of boxing at its best. Local Longmont fighters Jesus Noriega, Victor Villereal, Jamie Wirshborn fought their hearts out against opponents who came into town to win. Only one of the Longmont locals stepped out of the ring victorious..

In the headliner, 5 time champion Donald Camarena gave the crowd an awesome display of boxing savvy. While his opponent Daniel Gonzalez of Billings Montana showed the heart of a warrior. After 10 rounds of boxing Camarena pitches a shut out, winning on all judges’ scorecards by scores of 100-90.

Camarena utilized a stiff jab to keep Gonzalez at bay while Gonzalez kept pressing forward in trying to land his shots. On several occasions Gonzalez would close the gap only to have trouble breaking through the defense of Camarena.

Camarena worked the ropes in grand fashion and countered much of Gonzalez’ punches.

In the co-main:
Noriega built up a good lead, winning the first and second rounds by sticking and moving. However, a patient Stevie Marquez lands a hard shot to the head of Noriega with seconds remaining in the second round. Marquez takes advantage of a hurt Noriega and unleashes power shots. The referee stops the contest as Noriega was clearly hurt.

Undercard action saw Joey Silva improve to 3-0 with a first round knock out of Chris Segura who drops to 0-2. Heavyweights Corey Williams and Justin Wrede fight to a draw after four rounds of boxing. Rueben Rodriguez of Kearney, Nebraska upset Longmont local Jaime Wirshborn with a unanimous decision, all three judges scoring the fight 39-37. Victor Villereal also from longmont found himself in a tough fight against William Quintana, Kearney, Nebraska. Villereal pulls out a narrow victory by split decision.
