4 World Titles Fights On Saturday Night

26.10.05 – By Joe Harrison: On Saturday, Oct. 29th, Desert Diamond Casino and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions will have four WBO world championship bouts on their fight card. Ratanachai Sor Vorapin (65-8, 42 KOs) will defend his bantamweight title against number one ranked Jhonny Gonzalez (30-4, 26 KOs). Last time Gonzalez fought, he destroyed William Gonzalez with a third round knockout.. Although Sor Vorapin is well known for his punching power and aggressive style, Gonzalez has shown that he has a powerful punch of his own.

Also, Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (31-1-1, 24 KOs) puts his WBO super flyweight title on the line against Pramuansak “The Machine Gun” Phosawan (29-0-1, 17 KOs).

Phosawan defended the WBO Asia Pacific title successfully nine times and has yet to suffer his first loss. But Montiel has had no problems facing undefeated opponents, as he showed Ivan Hernandez last May by scoring a seventh round knockout.

In the third WBO world title fight of the evening, Hugo Cazares (21-3-1, 15 KOs) makes his third defense of the jr. flyweight championship against Kaichon Sor Vorapin (17-7, 6 KOs). The quick-moving and hard-punching Cazares has won each of his last twelve fights, nine by knockout. But Sor Vorapin has a number one ranking by the WBO, and wants to prove to everyone that he deserves to be a world champion.

Finally, Sod Looknongyangtoy (25-0, 10 KOs) and Daniel Ponce-De Leon (26-1, 25 KOs) will battle for the vacant super bantamweight championship. Once a member of the 2000 Mexican Olympic team, Ponce-De Leon has 25 knockouts out of his 27 fights, and has earned a number three rank by the WBO. However, Looknongyangtoy is currently the number one contender and has beaten every opponent in his 25 professional fights. After previous attempts to get these two fighters together, it will finally happen this Saturday night.
