Oscar Diaz vs. Emanuel Augustus: Old West Shootout on August 26!

22.07.05 – In what promises to be a heart-stopping thriller, all-action television favorite Oscar “El Torito” Diaz, 21-1 (11), will face all-action television favorite Emanuel Augustus, 31-24-6 (16), on August 26 at the Thunderbird Wild West Casino in Norman, Oklahoma and televised live on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. The two super lightweights will headline a “rock ‘em sock ‘em” night of Duva Boxing in association with Holden Productions professional boxing.

“Boxing fans, make sure you are in front of your televisions on the night of Friday, August 26,” said promoter Dino Duva. “Oscar and Emanuel are both cut from the same cloth. They can’t help but be electrifying. They’re going to the Wild West to put on an old-school gunfight for the ages.”

At just 22 years old, Oscar Diaz has already established himself as a true warrior with tremendous heart and determination. Although he possesses a complete range of technical boxing skills and has a formidable amateur pedigree, the rougher things get, the more “El Torito” seems to like it.

The flamboyant 30-year-old Augustus is deservedly known the world over as the “Best Fighter In Boxing with 24 Losses.” For the past ten years, he has made his living by facing nearly every notable contender in his weight class (usually in their backyard) and always giving fans a memorable and exciting performance. In his last outing, he put perennial contender Ray Oliveira into retirement with a dazzling mix of showboating and slugging, on his way to a TKO 8.

The Diaz/Augustus shootout could well be contested for the Texas State super lightweight title, as both fighters are natives of the Lone Star State. Diaz hails from San Antonio, while Augustus is from Brownsville.

“Anyone who knows boxing knows that this fight can’t miss,” continued Duva. “It’s going to be a battle of attrition between two of the toughest fighters in the sport. It’s a fight that had to be made and we’re happy to be bringing it to ESPN2’s viewers and the Thunderbird Wild West Casino.”
