Fuller vs. Brown on ESPN2 Tonight

21.06.05 – By Malik Lee: IBF Intercontinental Lightweight Championship belt holder for a few months in 2004 Damian Fuller 24-4 (11 KO’s) will square off against “The Eastern Beast” John Brown 23-12-1 (11 KO’s) at A La Carte Event Pavillion in Tampa Flordia. This bout will be the main event of ESPN’s 2 Tuesday night fights tonight June 21, 2005 with the show beginning at 8 PM Eastern Standard time. ESPN has prevented program over lap that cut into the last two previous broadcast boxing by showing two 30 minute broadcast of Mike Tyson in his prime. Great stuff to get you ready for the pending bout broadcast live.

The tale of the tape for Damien Fuller vs. John Brown fight scheduled for 10 rounds reads as follows: American puglist Damien Fuller hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Fuller age 27, standing 5’8″ fighting from a Southpaw stance. American puglist John Brown hometown Atlantic City, New Jersey. Brown 36 years old, standing 5’2″ with a reach of 62″ fighting from a Orthodox stance.

This contest will be Fuller’s first fight since winning the vacant IBF Intercontinental Lightweight Championship belt in a uniamious decision in 12 rounds over Lamar “Cochise” Murphy who’s currant record 29-10-1 (20 KO’s) in Indiana on April 30, 2004.

Brown’s last victory was March 13, 2003 against Isidro “Little Tommy Hearns” Tejedor who currant record is 16-22-4 (8 KO’s).
Fuller has won his last three fights since back to back loses, starting April 5, 2005 with a fight against Lovemore “The Black Panther” N’Dou was stopped on an unintentional head butt that opened a cut above N’Dou’s right eye. Fuller’s next lose came just under three months later when he was knocked out in the 3rd round by Diego “Chico” Corrales.

Brown making his pro debut in 1989 faught Lamar Murphy June 29, 1993 being handed his first in a uniamious decsion. Winning the USBA Super Featherweight belt with a TKO win, only to lose the belt his next fight. Brown has been two to toe with some tough dudes, losing a UD in 12 to Jesus “El Matador” Chavez in June 1997, losing a UD to Angel “Got Jesus” Manfredy in September of 1998, Shane “Suger” Mosley losing by TKO in the 8th round in April of 1999, Diego “Chico” Corrales by UD in December of 1999, and losing to Miguel Angel Cotto losing a UD in September 2002.

Brown does have a notiable win against Robbie “Bomber” Peden (the currant IBF 130lb belt holder) in June 2000 a UD for the NABF Super Featherweight Title and a IBF Super Featherweight Eliminator only one win over Carlos Rocha in April 2001 only to lose his next three fights and a draw in his last fight against Jermaine Marks January of 2005.

Fuller weighed 134 1/4 pond in his last fight and Brown weighed in at 140 pounds for his last scrap.

The originally scheduled main event had Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry fighting Damian Fuller. Cherry fractured his thumb during sparring with IBF#1 Ricky Quiles. Cherry looks to return late 2005-early 2006.
