Lolenga Mock speaks out

23.05.50 – Interview by Ike Enwereuzor: WBA International Light heavyweight champion Lolenga Mock (24-9-1 – 8 KOs) speaks out about his past, present and future plans to fight the best out there including Tomasz Adamek, Fabrice Tiozzo, Clinton Woods, Joe Calzaghe, Zsolt Erdei, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler and more.

Mock of Kinshasa, Congo now fighting out of Denmark started his professional boxing career May 1991. He captured the WBA International Light Heavyweight title November 2004 by knocking out Giovanni Alvarez in round 3. In April 2005, Mock took on a two days notice fight and added another belt to his collections by upsetting former world champion Charles Brewer in round 10 to win the WBO Intercontinental super middleweight belt.

Here is what WBO Intercontinental super middle and WBA International Light heavyweight champion had to say about past, present and future…

Ike: Could you please describe your fight with Charles Brewer?

Mock: My fight with Charles Brewer was a historic fight because Brewer never respected me until I wipped his behind. I took the fight just on a two days notice. So in the first round he just came very aggressive but I had to low him down systermatically. He finally gave me my due respect after a beating down, his corner had to throw in a towel in round ten to stop me from punishing him. I took over the fight from round 3 or 4 and stopped him in 10. I would love to fight Tomasz Adamek and prove what Paul Briggs couldn’t, he can’t last with me.

Ike: What did you think of Calzaghe-Veit II?

Mock: It was a 6 round fight, Mario can’t go 12 rounds with me. I saw his fight with Joe Calzaghe. I beat up Mario Veit so badly in my fight with him but they robbed the fight. I beat Charles Brewer and Mario Veit better than Calzaghe did. So, I think fans want to see Calzaghe tested by fighting a dangerous opponent like Lolenga “The Leopard” Mock. I fought in UK few sometimes, the fans in UK loved me. I would be happy to travel to UK again and entertain the fans we love. This time will be for the world championship since Clinton Woods and Joe Calzaghe are the best UK got to offer in this class and I am ready to challenge them. I’m ranked No.11 by WBO — “The Leopard” has to eat! If Calzaghe fights Jeff Lacy I could even fight the winner. The super middleweight division needs some fire so we can bring the best fights at this division, if not then we can slug it out at light heavy, I just want to fight, it’s my job.

Mikkel Kessler is also on my list of Boxers I would love to fight. They will have to fight me sooner or later. If the super middles don’t then I want to move up to Light heavyweight and fight champions like Tomasz Adamek, Zsolt Erdei or Fabrice Tiozzo who is holding my WBA belt for me. I’m almost in a position to take away Tiozzo WBA belt if Calzaghe or Clinton doesn’t fight me. I just want the best in the 168 division or 175. I’m willing to go to UK to fight Calzaghe or go to USA to fight Jeff Lacy at 168. I am ready to fight against any top ten at 175. I am the WBA International Light heavyweight champion, I have what they need and I just beat Charles Brewer to win the WBO Intercontinental super middleweight title. No one wants to fight me here in Europe at super middle so I have to fight Light Heavyweights.

I fought cruiserweights and heavyweights many times when I was a super middleweight my controversial losses were to bigger boxers. I fought Jesper Kristiansen in 2000 and Lasse Johansen, both were cruiserweights when I was super middleweight. They kept robbing me my fights but things are different now. I have to do whatever I have to do to become a world champion. I want to prove I am one of the best out there today. I need to fight all these champions to prove it and I’m willing to fight anybody willing to fight me.

Ike: Tell us about your fight with Mario Veit?

Mock: My fight with Mario Veit was controversial too, everyone who saw the fight said I won the fight but they gave it to Mario. I have tried to get a rematch but Mario don’t want to get beat up again. I beat Mario up very badly in the ring but the papers shows L in my records. This fight with Veit gave me another opportunity to fight for WBA International Light Heavyweight title which I won in November 2004 when I destroyed Giovanni Alvarez. I fought Malik Dziarra in Febuary 2004, I thought I won that fight but I let all that pass. I’m a different fighter today. I’m willing to fight the best, they can contact me at www.Leopardboxingclub.com

Ike: Your thoughts on Tiozzo-Michalczewski fight?

Mock: It was a good fight for Fabrice Tiozzo but I want him to know that he’s holding my WBA belt and I’m coming for it. I respect him and other champions but I know that Tiozzo can’t handle my power if i was in that ring that night I would have knocked him out. I am currently number 9 WBA World ranking but I need that WBA world title. Tarver and Glen Johnson needs to
watchout for Lolenga “The Leopard” Mock. “The Leopard” is coming into the jungle to feed, I’m very hungry I don’t see any super middleweight or light heavyweight on top ten that can beat me in the ring. I have been in this game for long now it’s time to step it up. I want to fight the best in the world. I have been challenging all the top ten fighters over a year now but they don’t want to step up to face me but those that did like Charles Brewer and Alvarez tested what the Leopard is
made of.

Ike: Your impression of fighters like Thomas Ulrich, Clinton Woods, Mikkel Kessler?

Mock: These boxers are good but I am not impressed by them, I want to fight Clinton Woods tomorrow if he considers himself a true world champion then he should answer to my challenge, SkyTV will love to show this fight. I’m a super middleweight ready to take on all these Light Heavyweights champions. I’ll come to Uk to fight Clinton or Joe Calzaghe but I bet you they will avoid me because the know I’ll take they belt away. I’m also interested in a fight with Zsolt Erdei, like I said I’m ranked number 11 by WBO and number 9 by WBA so I’m in the picture finally so they can’t avoid me anymore. Zsolt said he wants to fight the best out there, I respect him so I think, he should gave me an opportunity to fight him for the belt. I am just a super middleweight but I’ll fight him at light heavyweight. We are both known in Europe so this what the fans want to see. Most of these boxers knows I’ll knock them out so they just avoid me.

Ike: You were schedule to fight Alexej Trofimov before you fought Charles Brewer. Are you still going to fight him?

Mock: About the Alexej Trofimov fight I don’t think he wants to fight me again. I know he’s afraid to get knocked out. I am now thinking about World champions like Zsolt Erdei, Fabrice Tiozzo, Joe Calzaghe, Tomasz Adamek, Mikkel Kessler now. I’m ready to take on any of the top ten contenders. I’m the WBA International Light heavyweight champion, Thomas Ulrich, Silvio Blanco, Stipe Drews, Markus Beyer and other are scared to fight “the Leopard” also, I have the WBO Intercontinental super middleweight belt so I’m willing to fight at super middle or light heavy. I still want to fight Trofimov if everything is right.

Ike: Any comments to your fans?

Mock: I want to thank all my fans for their supports. I want to thank all the members of the Leopard Boxing Club for all their prayers and supports. I have promised to do all I could to bring the titles and honour to the Club. Special thanks to all the African fans also for their
letters and supports too. I love everyone of you out there even the American fans who write me and keep supporting.
