Gary Young: Scotland’s Next Boxing Star?

05.04.05 – Edinburgh hot-shot Gary Young believes that he will shortly join WBO World Featherweight Champion Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur at the top of Scottish boxing. The 21-year-old takes a step up in class when he tackles tough Russian Welterweight Champion Victor Baranov this Friday at the Meadowbank Stadium on the Alex Arthur-Craig Docherty undercard and win will see him challenge for his first title in his next fight.

Since turning professional in 2002, Young has thrilled his fans with his all-action style and amassing an unblemished record of 12-0 with 7 KO’s.

“Scott and Alex are the main men in Scotland at the moment and I’m looking to join them,” Young said confidently.

“Both of them are involved in big title fights; Scott is facing Michael Brodie in June and Alex has a tough fight against Docherty this Friday and it won’t be long until I’m in their position and involved in some big title fights that will really push me into the limelight,”

“But all that will go out of the window if I slip up against Baranov,”

Baranov, from Moscow, will certainly give test Young to see if he is ready for the next step.

He has a wealth of experience from 57 fights and has faced some of the best in Europe including Oktay Urkal, Steve Murray, Jason Cook, Jason Rowland and Bobby Vanzie.

“It’s a very tough fight for me and as this is the most important year for me I will be looking to do an efficient job on Baranov to make a real statement,” Finished Young.

Billed as ‘FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE!’, Arthur-Docherty headline a superb card that also features Edinburgh bantamweight Scott Flynn, Coatbridge super-featherweight Ricky Burns, Glasgow welterweight Colin McNeil, Arbroath light-middleweight Barry Lee plus London heavyweight John McDermott and Welsh middleweight prospect Kerry Hope.
