Nottingham groundswell for Carl Froch

26.02.04 – Carl Froch – who claimed the English super middleweight title with a devastating seventh round stoppage of Manchester’s Alan Page last November – comes ‘home’ to Nottingham a champion on Friday March 12th. The city can be guaranteed to get behind their man, even though he will now face a new challenge following the withdrawal of British champion Tony Dodson with a facial sparring injury from the event.

“There is already something of a buzz around the place with over two weeks to go,” explained the 26-year-old from the suburb of Gedling.

“This night is going to bring something special and so will I, regardless of who I fight.

The ‘Cobra’ continued: “They really love their boxing here, as my first two fights at the Nottingham Arena showed.

“The likes of Wally Swift, David Needham and Henry Cooper have all also boxed on the same site, selling thousands of tickets for real title fights.

“Along with my promoter Mick Hennessy, I am going to bring those days back for good.”

The 26-year-old – who will now headline the Hennessy Sports ‘home’ promotion in another title affair shortly to be announced – is philosophical about the postponement of the Dodson showdown.

“Obviously, I would have liked to have got my hands on his title in March, but the fight will still take place before the summer.

“The inevitable is only being delayed.

“It is my destiny to win British, Commonwealth, European and genuine world honours.

“Nothing can change that. Fate leads the willing and drags along the unwilling.”

‘home’ takes place at the Nottingham Arena on Friday March 12th. The event also features former two times WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide, Damon Hague vs Roddy Doran, David Walker, Lenny Daws, Lee Meager, Matthew Thirlwall, Ryan Rhodes and Wayne Pinder.

Tickets are available on 0870 121 0123.
