David Haye Says Anthony Joshua’s Discipline Could Hurt Fury

Haye says Fury remains the more skilled heavyweight but wonders if conditioning could become decisive

David Haye believes Tyson Fury still has more natural boxing ability than Anthony Joshua, but he questioned whether Fury’s conditioning and lifestyle could become major factors later this year. Joshua is expected to face Fury in November after first returning against Kristian Prenga on July 25.

Haye believes the contrast in how both heavyweights treat their bodies could eventually matter once they share the ring.

“Is ‘AJ’ gonna dominate him; is Tyson Fury gonna outbox him?” Haye told Tris Dixon.

“[Has] the lifestyle of Tyson Fury finally caught up with him?”

Haye pointed to Joshua’s conditioning and discipline while comparing the two former champions.

“The fact that [Joshua] treats his body like a temple, the fact that he looks after what he eats. He doesn’t take any drugs; he doesn’t drink. Is that gonna come to pass?”

“Maybe it’s going to be [about] who’s lived the best.”

At the same time, Haye still sees Fury as the more gifted boxer technically.

“I’d definitely say Tyson Fury has more boxing skill than Anthony Joshua,” said Haye.

“I’ve never seen ‘AJ’ stand against the ropes, slip and slide punches like I’ve seen Tyson Fury do.”

The question for Haye is whether Fury can still perform at the same pace physically after years of inactivity, weight fluctuations, and time away from the sport.

“Who can fight at a pace; who can put their punches together?”

Joshua has already confirmed his July return against Prenga, while Fury’s side has not yet announced whether he will take another fight before the proposed November clash.
