Shane Mosley Jr. Stops Serhii Bohachuk in Major Las Vegas Upset

Mosley Jr. handled Bohachuk’s pressure before forcing a sixth-round stoppage at Zuffa Boxing 6

Shane Mosley Jr. (23-5, 13 KOs) stopped Serhii Bohachuk (27-4, 24 KOs) at 2:38 of the sixth round Sunday night in the main event of Zuffa Boxing 6 in Las Vegas. Mosley Jr. handled Bohachuk’s pressure early, then took control with sharper counters, cleaner combinations, and stronger work during the middle rounds.

Bohachuk came forward from the opening bell, trying to crowd Mosley Jr. behind pressure and volume. Mosley Jr. stayed composed, gave ground when needed, and picked spots well with counters as Bohachuk stepped in. The size difference quickly became noticeable, with Mosley Jr., who has campaigned as high as 168 pounds, looking physically stronger in the exchanges.

As the rounds progressed, Bohachuk’s workrate dipped while Mosley Jr. grew more comfortable. Mosley Jr. started catching him with cleaner right hands and hooks, especially when Bohachuk squared up trying to close distance. He also worked effectively in combination once Bohachuk backed to the ropes.

The ending came in the sixth. Mosley Jr. landed a hard right hand that hurt Bohachuk and sent him down before jumping on him along the ropes with sustained punches. Bohachuk covered up without firing back as Mosley Jr. kept throwing combinations, forcing referee Thomas Taylor to stop the fight at 2:38 of the round.

One of the key shots in the exchange appeared to land around the side and back of Bohachuk’s head while he was bent forward. The punch seemed to disrupt his balance before the finishing attack, although the sequence continued without intervention from the referee.

After the win, Mosley Jr. reflected on his path in boxing.

“I wanted to do this sport for me,” Mosley Jr said afterward. “I told everybody when I was 15 years old, when I got punched in the nose and got a bloody nose, and I wanted to get back.

“This is the result of that. I get punched in the nose. I get punched in the face. What’s up? I’m here.”

The victory stands as the biggest win of Mosley Jr.’s career and gives him a significant result at middleweight, while Bohachuk suffered another setback after struggling to deal with the size, counters, and combination punching coming back at him.
