Simon Jordan Rips Tyson Fury’s Mariusz Wach Comeback Fight

The talkSPORT pundit branded the July 24 bout a “gimme” and questioned whether the 46-year-old veteran offers meaningful preparation for Anthony Joshua

Simon Jordan has dismissed Tyson Fury’s July 24 comeback against Mariusz Wach as little more than a glorified sparring session, questioning both the opponent and the sporting value of the contest. The criticism comes as Fury prepares for a proposed heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year.

Fury is using the contest as a comeback fight before a proposed showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year. Wach, however, has won only three of his last 10 fights and was stopped in two rounds by Moses Itauma in December 2024.

Jordan made his feelings clear, sarcastically describing Wach as “147 years old” and saying he had been “beaten by everybody.”

The former Crystal Palace owner also mocked the idea that Fury’s return should be treated as a legitimate fight.

“It’s not on television, which, by the way, it probably couldn’t be because it’d have to have it under the Trade Descriptions Act posing as a fight,” Jordan said to talkSPORT Boxing.

Johnny Nelson described the bout as an exhibition and argued that Fury simply needs rounds before facing Joshua. Jordan was less forgiving, calling the matchup “a gimme” and “a gimmick.”

“It’s a sparring session,” Jordan said after Wach’s recent record and age were discussed.

Fury’s team has presented the event as a charitable venture, with proceeds reportedly going to an orphanage in Thailand. Jordan even questioned that explanation, asking why Fury could not donate to an orphanage in England instead.

The bigger problem is that Wach may not provide Fury with the work he needs. The Polish veteran is slow, inactive, and no longer throws enough punches to test a former heavyweight champion preparing for Joshua.

If Fury removes Wach quickly, the fight will accomplish little beyond giving him another official appearance. If Wach lasts several rounds, it may say more about Fury’s current condition than the usefulness of the opponent.
