Shakur Stevenson Eyes Fighter Of The Year After Devin Haney Agrees To 144

Shakur Stevenson wasted little time looking beyond negotiations after Devin Haney publicly agreed to a proposed 144-pound catchweight. Moments after Haney accepted the number, Stevenson began talking about a Fighter of the Year campaign built around a victory over the WBO welterweight champion.

“144 is fair for 2 champions in 2 separate weight classes, Floyd and Canelo made one of the biggest fights ever happen at a catch weight.. If yall seriously wanted the fight it would be easy to make , Yall fought Jose Ramirez at that weight 2 fights ago,” Stevenson wrote on X.

Haney then put the matter directly to Stevenson.

“If I come to 144.. we have a fight?” Haney posted.

Stevenson’s response was brief.

“Yes.”

The unbeaten champion quickly shifted the conversation from making the fight to what he believes a victory over Haney would mean for his career.

“FIGHTER OF THE YEAR ME AFTER THIS!!” said Shakur on X.

Stevenson followed that message with another post directed at those who have questioned his achievements.

“IM GONE SHOW YALL HOW GREAT I AM KEEP PLAYING ON MY NAME”

A victory over Haney would likely rank among the biggest wins of Stevenson’s career. Haney remains unbeaten as a professional and currently holds the WBO welterweight title after previously capturing championships at lighter weights.

Haney, meanwhile, has already shown he can perform effectively at the proposed weight. The WBO welterweight champion fought Jose Ramirez at a 144-pound catchweight in May 2025 and produced one of his stronger recent performances, relying on speed and sharp boxing to earn a wide unanimous decision.

While public exchanges do not guarantee contracts will follow, both fighters have now publicly agreed to the same number. Stevenson’s attention quickly shifted from negotiating terms to discussing what a victory over Haney could mean for his standing in the sport, including a potential Fighter of the Year campaign.
