Garcia says negotiations for the expected September 12 Las Vegas fight are still being worked out behind the scenes
Ryan Garcia says his expected September 12 fight against Conor Benn in Las Vegas is still not officially finalized despite growing reports that the matchup is already complete. Garcia confirmed negotiations remain active while cautioning fans against treating the fight as official too early.
“The truth is, I have a potential fight with Conor Benn,” Ryan said to Complex News.
“Nothing too official right now. Me and my manager are working on figuring out the details, but it looks good. But until it’s finalized, it’s hard to say it’s going to for sure happen because I know everyone’s saying September 12th in Las Vegas at T-Mobile.”
Ryan then suggested the fight is close, but not completely locked in yet.
“I could say that I’m going to fight September 12th in Vegas, but the opponent is a question mark. Or let’s just say there’s a slight asterisk on it.”
The WBC welterweight champion also revealed that his current contract situation guarantees The Ring will remain involved in his next appearance, regardless of how the final deal comes together.
“I do know I have a contract with The Ring for my next fight. So no matter what, they will be involved and I’m sure everything’s going to work out,” said Ryan.
Ryan’s comments arrive after multiple reports claimed the Benn fight was already finalized for Mexican Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas. His remarks suggest negotiations are still active, even if both sides remain headed toward an agreement
