Ryan Garcia Opens Door To Shakur Stevenson Fight At 140

Ryan Garcia says he can still comfortably make 140 pounds, reviving the possibility of a fight with Shakur Stevenson at junior welterweight. Stevenson quickly responded on social media after Garcia publicly said he would “love” to take the fight if the opportunity appeared.

Garcia spent much of the last year competing at welterweight and had previously suggested he was done with draining down in weight. Those comments had created uncertainty about whether a fight with Shakur was realistic unless Stevenson moved up from 135.

“If you’re going to fight him, where would you fight him at, number one? And number two, are you saying from 140 to 147, you’re willing to fluctuate and move back and forth, as opposed to moving up in weight? What’s your intent?” said Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take, asking Ryan Garcia what weight he would be willing to fight Shakur Stevenson.

“My strength and conditioning coach, he said, thinks I could make 140 comfortably. I trust the people and my team around me. If the opportunity presents itself, I would love to fight Shakur Stevenson.”

Ryan said that during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take.

Shakur quickly reacted after the interview clip began circulating on social media.

Shakur posted that on X while responding directly to Ryan’s comments.

The exchange immediately fueled discussion about a possible fight between the two stars at 140. Ryan has already fought as high as welterweight, while Shakur has repeatedly spoken about eventually moving beyond lightweight as his career progresses.
