Dan Rafael reports promoters are targeting an announcement around the UFC ceremonial weigh-in, although final agreements remain unfinished

Ryan Garcia’s proposed WBC welterweight title defense against Conor Benn could be announced later Friday, with veteran boxing journalist Dan Rafael reporting that only a handful of final agreements remain outstanding. Promoters are targeting the UFC ceremonial weigh-in in Las Vegas for the official launch if the remaining paperwork is completed.

The matchup has been moving toward completion throughout the week. Earlier reports indicated both sides had gathered in Las Vegas to finalize negotiations, with the remaining discussions focused on promotional structure and broadcast arrangements.

Ryan first revealed the fight publicly during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying he would defend his WBC welterweight title against Benn on September 12 in Las Vegas. At the time, however, no official announcement had been made by the promoters.

The promotion presents logistical challenges because Ryan is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, while Benn has recently been linked with Zuffa Boxing. Broadcast rights have also remained unresolved, with DAZN viewed as the most likely destination, although other options have been discussed during negotiations.

If finalized, the bout would match two of boxing’s most recognizable names in a fight that has been discussed for months. Ryan captured the WBC welterweight title earlier this year and would be making the first defense of his championship against Benn, who moves into his highest-profile fight since returning to full-time competition.

An official announcement could still come later Friday, provided the remaining negotiations are completed.
