Jones backs Lewis’s power to beat Fury despite acknowledging his size and ability to adjust

Roy Jones Jr has backed Lennox Lewis to beat Tyson Fury in a fantasy matchup between two British heavyweight champions. The Hall of Famer says Lewis’s punching power would be the difference despite Fury’s ability to adjust during fights.

Lewis and Fury are often placed near the top of modern British heavyweight debates, with both men holding world titles in different eras and building major international profiles.

Jones said Fury’s adaptability would have made the contest difficult, but still backed Lewis to come through.

“Tyson Fury vs Lennox Lewis? It would have been a great fight, but my first thought is Lennox Lewis because of the power,” Jones said in an interview with Grosvenor Casino. “But my second thought also says Tyson Fury was great at making adjustments. I would’ve gone with Lennox Lewis.”

Lennox Lewis became heavyweight champion in the 1990s and later unified the division, beating a long list of top contenders during his reign. Tyson Fury won titles in two separate runs and remains one of the most difficult heavyweights of his era because of his size, movement, and ability to change tactics during fights.

The debate remains popular because the two men brought very different strengths. Lewis was viewed as a disciplined puncher with one of the best jabs of his generation, while Fury relied on awkward movement, reach, and in-fight adjustments.

British heavyweight boxing remains active in the current era. Fabio Wardley is set to face Daniel Dubois next month, while Moses Itauma continues to be discussed as one of the division’s leading young prospects.

As for fantasy matchups, Jones sided with Lewis, and plenty of old-school fans likely will too.
