Richardson Hitchins Rejects Kelvin Davis Fight, Says He’s Chasing Bigger Opportunities

The IBF junior welterweight champion dismissed a potential matchup with Davis while preparing for his July 26 Zuffa Boxing debut

Richardson Hitchins has no interest in fighting Kelvin Davis right now. The unbeaten IBF junior welterweight champion dismissed the idea on social media Saturday, arguing that a matchup with Davis would do little for his career as he prepares for his first fight under the Zuffa Boxing banner.

Hitchins continued by saying he is focused on bigger opportunities and referred to Davis as “free money.”

“If i could i would tho I’m trying to stack some ms in my account and your free money.”

The comments came after Kelvin Davis exchanged messages with fans online and referenced Hitchins during the discussion.

Davis, 29, is coming off a split decision win over Peter Dobson on May 16 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The result proved unpopular with many fans in attendance, who booed when the decision was announced. A number of observers felt Dobson had done enough to earn the victory.

Hitchins also referenced Davis’ February 2023 fight against Nahir Albright, a contest many fans believed Albright deserved to win despite losing a majority decision.

For Hitchins, the focus appears to be elsewhere. The unbeaten champion announced earlier Saturday that he will make his Zuffa Boxing debut against Ricardo Salas on July 26. While Salas is not viewed as one of the division’s marquee names, he enters the fight on the back of recent victories and is coming off a stronger run of form than Davis.
