O’Shaquie Foster Declares Himself Boxing’s Most Avoided Fighter

The WBC junior lightweight champion says opponents across several weight classes do not want to face him

O’Shaquie Foster believes his win over Ray Ford strengthened his reputation as one of boxing’s most difficult assignments. The WBC junior lightweight champion says he is not only the most avoided fighter at 130 pounds but one of the most avoided fighters in the sport.

Asked whether he now views himself as the division’s boogeyman, Foster took the idea a step further.

“I feel like I’m the boogeyman in all of boxing,” said Foster to Ring Magazine. “Whether I go to 30, whether I go to 35, 40, I feel like I’m the guy that they don’t want to see just because of what I bring to the table as far as they know my mentality. And then it’s hard to prepare for a guy like me.

“So, I definitely feel like I’m the boogeyman.”

The victory over Ford marked another successful title defense for Foster and extended a run that has seen him face several of the top fighters in the junior lightweight division.

Foster’s victory came just five months after his previous outing. The champion said he has already watched the fight several times and believes he controlled the action throughout, despite some suggesting the contest was closer than he felt it was.

Foster improved his standing at 130 pounds with the victory and remains the WBC junior lightweight champion as he looks ahead to his next fight later this year and beyond.
