Max Kellerman’s Departure Opens Door to Format Change

Boxing 24/7 Wire - 10/07/2026 - Comments

Max Kellerman stepping away from Inside the Ring gives the broadcast a genuine chance to reset its tempo, with Mario Lopez stepping in as host. While Mike Coppinger praised Kellerman’s veteran presence, Kellerman’s tendency to deliver long monologues often dragged down the broadcast for fans looking for lively back-and-forth action.

“Will miss working with @maxkellerman every week on Inside The Ring. Learned a ton from him about TV, boxing and just life in general. He was always gracious with his time,” Coppinger posted on X.

Front Office Sports broke the news that both Kellerman and LeSean McCoy are out for season two. Coppinger stays on board, while the show jumps to two weekly streams across DAZN Boxing and Ring Magazine’s YouTube platforms. Neither DAZN nor Omaha Productions offered any comment on the roster shakeup.

Kellerman brought deep boxing knowledge to the desk, yet his delivery frequently felt like homework. Drawn-out breakdowns, circular arguments, and constant interruptions regularly squeezed the other voices out of the room. A roundtable falls flat when a single speaker runs the clock instead of letting panelists challenge assertions directly.

Viewers turned off by his style never questioned his technical expertise. The frustration came from enduring massive setup speeches just to reach a simple point. Regular fight fans want sharp back-and-forth talk, not an exhaustive lecture on every basic detail.

His relentless hyping of select fighters hurt the conversations as well. Over-the-top flattery makes audiences wonder if they are getting genuine analysis or a company sales pitch. Even without deliberate favoritism, nonstop cheerleading chips away at viewer trust.

Lopez brings the ability to create a punchier, welcoming broadcast where multiple opinions get room to breathe. His presence by itself will not fix everything, so the production team must build an environment that forces lively exchanges.

Coppinger’s tribute showed real respect for a veteran partner. Still, the revamped Inside the Ring needs to channel its crew’s expertise into an entertaining, balanced debate rather than letting one microphone drown out the rest of the table.
