Davis blamed repeated holding from Albright and said the referee forced him to “click into another gear” after the two-point penalty

Keyshawn Davis defended the illegal wrestling-style slam that cost him two points against Nahir Albright, insisting frustration over repeated holding led to the seventh-round incident. Davis also criticized the referee afterward and claimed the penalty forced him to raise his workrate late in the fight.

“No, I ain’t going to cap. I ain’t think twice of doing it. I’m going to be real with you. He was on my neck. Oh s***. Boom. That’s what happened cuz. No cap. Oh, boom. Get off,” said Keyshawn to the media, explaining why he illegally used a wrestling move to body slam Albright to the canvas in round seven.

“And the ref was. I’m trying to explain. Ref was like, ‘No, no, no. I got you.’ I’m like, ‘Bet.’ He about to get on him. This man took two points away from me. Two points.

“I’m like, ‘All right, bet.’”

Davis argued that the referee had already warned Albright earlier in the fight about excessive holding, but felt the officiating stayed one-sided during the contest.

“The ref told me, ‘Yo, this is a hard warning for you holding, Keyshawn, in the second round,'” said Davis.

“And y’all know this boy was holding the whole fight. And the ref ain’t say nothing to him. So I don’t know what the ref was seeing tonight. Shouts out to you ref, my fight.”

The two-point deduction did not appear to concern Keyshawn afterward. He claimed it forced him to increase his output late in the fight after the seventh-round penalty.

“Hell no. I was turnt up after that. I’m like, ‘All right, bet, minus two points.’ I had to click into another gear. I feel like I did for real.

“I started beating his ass at the end of the fight. I ain’t lying,” said Keyshawn.

Davis also downplayed the personal rivalry with Albright despite the history between them dating back to their controversial first fight, which was later changed to a no-contest.

“Bro, for real, I’m just happy I got the win. All that extra stuff, all that unfinished business, all that is personal.

“This is never personal. This is always business. Keyshawn is the businessman. That’s my name.

“I don’t got no problems with bro. Bro got a daughter. Hope he get home to his daughter safe,” said Keyshawn.

Later in the interview, Davis revealed that Lamont Roach and Oscar Duarte were among the names he had pushed for before landing the Albright rematch.

“I was on the phone with Lamont Roach. He’s trying to make it happen,” said Davis.

“I also was trying to get in contact with Oscar Duarte, but Oscar Duarte just fought on the David Benavidez card, so he just wanted to do that.”
