John Fury Sends Warning To Moses Itauma Over Daniel Dubois Fight

Fury says the unbeaten heavyweight contender may be facing the WBO champion too early in his career

John Fury believes Moses Itauma should wait before facing Daniel Dubois, warning that the WBO heavyweight champion could be a step too far at this stage of the unbeaten contender’s development. Speaking to Seconds Out, Fury praised Dubois’ resurgence while suggesting Itauma may benefit from more experience before pursuing a title fight.

Dubois twice climbed off the canvas before stopping Fabio Wardley to capture the WBO heavyweight title last month. Wardley has since exercised the rematch clause in their contract, setting up a second meeting later this year with the belt once again on the line.

Itauma, meanwhile, continues his rapid ascent through the heavyweight ranks. Despite having just 14 professional bouts, the 21-year-old now occupies the WBO’s number one position and is viewed by many as a future world champion.

Fury, whose son Tyson has sparred both men, offered his assessment of how Itauma would fare against Dubois at this stage of his career.

“I think that it may be too soon for Itauma, too soon. [He is] a dangerous man, Daniel Dubois, and I give him credit for what he has done,” said John to Secondsout.

Itauma currently sits at #1 in the WBO rankings, putting him in line for a future mandatory opportunity. The southpaw has moved quickly since turning professional, stopping the majority of his opponents while attracting comparisons to some of the heavyweight division’s biggest names.

Any future clash between Dubois and Itauma will likely depend on how the heavyweight landscape unfolds over the next year. With Wardley set for another opportunity against Dubois and Itauma holding mandatory status with the WBO, their paths could eventually cross in a fight that many believe would represent a changing of the guard in boxing’s glamour division.
