Isaac Cruz Questions Ryan Garcia’s December Demand

Isaac Cruz has zero respect for Ryan Garcia’s destruction of Conor Benn, and he made sure Ryan knew it Saturday night. Cruz warned that Ryan will discover a vicious reality check once he steps into the ring with a real Mexican instead of a European opponent. Ryan boasts that he already tamed a lion and plans to leash Pitbull next, but Cruz answered that bravado with pure contempt.

“It’s not the same beating someone who isn’t known, a European opponent. It’s not the same facing a real Mexican,” Cruz said during his postfight press conference. “I’m here for the challenge. I’m more than ready. December, May, September, it doesn’t matter. The desire is there, and let’s make it happen.”

That sounded like an acceptance until Cruz heard questions about December. He said the date required discussion with his team and promoter, with his priority centered on arriving in optimal condition.

Ryan’s deadline looks calculated. Cruz has less than three months to recover, negotiate the deal, and complete another camp. If Cruz delays until early 2027, Ryan wins the public narrative by claiming Pitbull wanted no part of him.

The physical difference makes that rushed timetable dangerous. Cruz began his championship run at lightweight and now must climb from light welterweight to face a taller, longer fighter carrying welterweight power. Cruz normally drives his shoulder into an opponent’s chest before attacking the ribs. That inside leverage vanishes when the larger man pushes him backward.

Bravo landed clean counters as Cruz charged forward without head movement. That opening gives Ryan’s left hook an ideal target. Cruz leans over his front foot when loading the overhand right, placing his head directly in the path of incoming fire.

Jose Valenzuela showed how disciplined movement and a steady jab keep Cruz from planting his feet. Ryan does not move like Valenzuela, but his reach and hand speed present the same perimeter test with far greater knockout danger.

Cruz must survive the early hooks, force Ryan against the ropes, and attack the body from close range. Ryan dislikes being smothered and waits for the referee once opponents crowd his arms. Cruz needs an ugly brawl along the ropes, not a clean punching contest at mid-range.

Cruz accepted the opponent. He hesitated on Ryan’s date, and that distinction will decide if the fight happens in 2026.
