Dalton Smith injury cancels Puello bout as flyweight unification tops DAZN card
Galal Yafai’s fight with Ricardo Sandoval has been moved to the June 6 main event in Sheffield after Dalton Smith withdrew with an injury. The change puts the WBC and WBA flyweight titles at the top of the DAZN card at Utilita Arena.
Matchroom confirmed that Smith will no longer face Alberto Puello in the planned WBC World Super Lightweight title fight after suffering an injury during training camp. The June 6 show on DAZN at the Utilita Arena will still go ahead, but the top billing now shifts to Yafai’s biggest night as a professional.
Yafai is set to challenge Sandoval for the WBC and WBA flyweight titles in a fight that now carries added attention after the late card change. The unbeaten Olympic gold medalist has been steadily moved toward world level, and this becomes the highest-profile slot of his career in front of a home crowd.
Sandoval enters as the defending champion and now takes center stage in a fight that could carry wider interest than the original main event. Smaller weight classes do not always get headline treatment in Britain, so the switch gives both men a stronger platform.
Smith’s withdrawal is a setback for Sheffield fans who were expecting to see one of the city’s leading names compete for a world title on home soil. No immediate timetable has been given for his return or whether the Puello fight can be rescheduled once he recovers.
The undercard remains in place despite the late shuffle. Josh Padley is still due to defend his EBU European super featherweight title against Aqib Fiaz in a domestic fight that should draw attention locally.
Heavyweight prospect Leo Atang is also scheduled to appear in Yorkshire, with unbeaten prospects Adam Maca and Connor Mitchell remaining on the bill. Aaron Bowen faces Troy Coleman, while Ibraheem Sulaimaan meets Ibrahim Nadim for the English super featherweight title.
Refunds are available through the original point of purchase for fans who no longer wish to attend after the change.
