Pacquiao’s team is searching for a new opponent after negotiations for a September rematch with Floyd Mayweather broke down

Manny Pacquiao has turned his attention to a new opponent after plans for a September rematch with Floyd Mayweather collapsed. Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur says negotiations have ended for now, with the former eight-division world champion already exploring other options for later this year.

Mathur confirmed that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II is no longer moving forward, ending months of speculation that the rivals would renew their historic rivalry later this year.

The proposed rematch would have marked the first professional meeting between the two since Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in their record-breaking bout in May 2015. While both men have remained active in different capacities since then, a second fight had generated renewed interest after discussions intensified this year.

The original contest generated one of the richest pay-per-view events in boxing history, making a sequel an attractive proposition despite both fighters being well beyond their championship primes. That commercial appeal helped fuel renewed negotiations before the latest setback brought discussions to an end.

Mathur attributed the breakdown in negotiations to legal issues, contract breaches, and financial problems surrounding the Mayweather side. Although the September date is no longer viable, Pacquiao’s camp has not completely ruled out revisiting the matchup if those issues can eventually be resolved.

For now, Pacquiao’s focus has shifted toward securing another opponent before the end of the year. No replacement has been announced, leaving the former eight-division world champion with several possible directions as he plans his next appearance.
