Social-media footage showing available seats at Scope Arena sparked debate before Davis’ Norfolk hometown fight

Fans on social media questioned interest in Saturday’s rematch between Keyshawn Davis and Nahir Albright after footage circulated online appearing to show large sections of available seating at Scope Arena in Norfolk. The rematch headlines a Top Rank card nearly two years after their first fight was overturned to a no-contest.

“Half of the arena seems to be empty for the Keyshawn Davis vs Nahir Albright fight this Saturday in Norfolk Virginia,” the account posted on X. “Why is this fight struggling to sell tickets?”

The 12-round junior welterweight rematch headlines a Top Rank card and comes nearly two years after the first meeting between Davis and Albright ended in controversy.

Davis originally won the fight by majority decision in October 2023, but the result was later overturned to a no-contest after Davis tested positive for marijuana.

Although the result was changed to a no-contest, many fans still viewed Davis as the clear winner of the first fight. That has led to questions about whether the rematch carries enough intrigue for a hometown main event.

Since the first fight, Davis has moved deeper into the title picture at 140 pounds and has publicly called for fights against Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez. Albright, meanwhile, is still viewed by many fans as a respected spoiler rather than a major headliner, which may have lowered excitement for the rematch.

Davis himself recently admitted that he originally wanted a different opponent.

“I didn’t want this fight,” Davis said in a recent interview while discussing the Albright rematch. Davis added that he wanted a fight against Oscar Duarte before Top Rank pushed for the rematch.

Some fans replying to the viral footage also pointed to Davis’ past weight issues and his public feuds with opponents as possible reasons for the softer reaction locally.

Others defended Davis and argued that ticket sales could still improve closer to fight night.

The event remains an important hometown appearance for Davis, who is still viewed as one of Top Rank’s key young fighters and one of the leading American contenders in the junior welterweight division.
