Fans on social media are questioning Shakur Stevenson after comments resurfaced about potential fights with Conor Benn and Devin Haney at different weight limits. Stevenson said he would fight Benn at 147 pounds while suggesting a Haney fight should happen at a 144-pound catchweight.

“If Conor Benn wants to run it at 147, we can do the same thing he did with Eubank,” Shakur said on the Ariel Helwani show, while referencing a possible rehydration clause.

Stevenson took a different approach when discussing Haney, arguing that the fight should happen closer to junior welterweight despite Haney’s recent move to welterweight.

“I think that Haney fought at a catchweight against Jose Ramirez two fights ago,” Stevenson said. “So, I would love to do it at 144 pounds. We can meet him in the middle.”

The contrast between the two proposed weight limits quickly became a major talking point among fans online.

Many questioned why Shakur appeared comfortable fighting Benn at the full welterweight limit while asking Haney to come down three pounds below 147 for their own fight.

Others argued that Stevenson’s position made sense strategically because Haney has become significantly larger physically since leaving lightweight behind.

The debate around possible weight-drain tactics has already become one of the biggest storylines surrounding a potential Stevenson-Haney fight. Tim Bradley recently warned that forcing Haney down with rehydration restrictions or a difficult catchweight could leave the fight carrying an “asterisk” in the eyes of some fans.

Bill Haney also rejected the idea of a 144-pound fight during a recent podcast appearance, insisting Haney’s side is focused on staying at welterweight.

“We’re not going down no more pounds,” Bill said while discussing a possible Stevenson fight.

Stevenson has continued campaigning around lightweight and junior welterweight, while Haney’s side appears increasingly committed to 147 pounds moving forward.
