Eddie Hearn Says Boots Ennis Plans To “Take Xander Apart”

Hearn expects Ennis to sit in the pocket, trade punches, and chase a knockout instead of boxing cautiously over 12 rounds

Eddie Hearn says Jaron “Boots” Ennis plans to pressure Xander Zayas aggressively rather than coast through a technical boxing performance on June 27. Hearn predicted Ennis will sit in the pocket, trade shots, and actively chase a stoppage instead of trying to win a cautious decision.

“I mean like he’s telling me I’m going to take this kid to pieces on June 27th,” said Eddie Hearn to Tell Us About That Boxing.

Hearn later explained that he expects the fight to be much more aggressive than a technical boxing match because of the way Ennis fights compared to most high-IQ boxers.

“Boots will sit in the pocket. He will fight you. He will attack you. He can box off the back foot, but he actually likes to come and fight,” said Hearn.

“Most of the time guys with IQ like Boots don’t sit in the pocket and are willing to trade and fight and try and knock people out.

“That’s why he’s such so exciting. That’s why he’s such a draw.

“In this fight, it won’t just be a one-way boxing masterclass. It will be Boots taking chances, sitting in the pocket, maybe getting hit himself, but trying to knock Xander out.

“Not trying to go 12 rounds. Not trying to put on a boxing masterclass. Not trying to tell you after how he didn’t get touched. And it’s all about hit and not get hit,” said Hearn.

Hearn also believes Zayas’ style will contribute to the action. Fans have expected a major performance from Ennis since the fight was announced.

“He’s always aggressive, but I think Zayas will be aggressive. I think this is going to be a firefight. I really do,” said Hearn.
