David Benavidez: The Most Exciting Fighter In The World Today……And Also One Of The P-4-P Best

There is so much to like about “Mexican Monster” David Benavidez. Not only is Benavidez seemingly never in a bad fight, as in a boring fight, the at-his-peak (or thereabouts) 29-year-old is also a warrior with an old-school, I ‘ll-fight-anyone attitude and desire. Benavidez is a fighter with an extremely likable personality; he is not one to engage in silly trash-talk, and Benavidez is, quite simply, a fighter who seems set for real greatness.

Benavidez was special last night in dismantling and stopping Gilberto Ramirez, this in a fight that, while only competitive for a couple of rounds or so, delivered in the trenches slugging department. We kind of knew what we’d get going in, and last night’s fight was so much fun to watch while it lasted. Benavidez looked like a real beast in his 200-pound debut, and the combination of hand speed, punch output, and sheer zest for combat that Benavidez displayed was mesmerizing. Mesmerizing could be the keyword to describe Benavidez; his blood and guts ring displays a thing of raw beauty. Who doesn’t like this guy!?

So, after having made history with the stoppage win over “Zurdo,” who and what is next for Benavidez? We cannot wait to see the most consistently exciting, bang-for-buck fighter back in action, that’s for darn sure. Benavidez has options. A stay at cruiserweight would be great for the division, and can you name a more appealing, indeed more guaranteed X-rated violent affair than Benavidez Vs. cruiserweight top dog Jai Opetaia? Or maybe Benavidez will drop back down to defend his light-heavyweight title, maybe against Dmitry Bivol? This, too, would be super-special to see.

Can anyone beat Benavidez? With his incredible engine, his amazing speed of hand, his hefty power, his overall toughness, and his very real desire, even need to go to war whilst loving it, could it be that Benavidez’s ability to devour a foe will see him to an unbeaten record when his career comes to an end? Maybe. Benavidez seems to be one of the special ones, a fighter who will always find a way to win, who will always refuse to take second place.

There could be a heck of a lot more to come from Benavidez: Fights with the elite at 200 pounds, the best at 175 – heck, maybe even a move up to heavyweight one day. And we fans will be the lucky ones, sitting back as the red-hot action unfolds each and every time Benavidez steps into the ring. A hard worker in the gym, Benavidez pays diligent respect to his chosen sport, which is yet another admirable quality the man from Phoenix, Arizona, boasts. Currently 32-0(26), and again, possibly at his absolute peak right now, Benavidez is a fighter who, aside from being the most exciting gunslinger in the game, is also one of the pound-for-pound best in the world. Again, what’s not to like here?

Let’s enjoy David Benavidez while he’s here, doing his stuff, punching out great fight after great fight. The new Face of Boxing? Mabe Benavidez is, or can be, The Man. As far as listing my own personal favorite fighter, though there are numerous modern greats who I could vote for, Benavidez now sits – or stands – at the top of the pile.
