Allen rates Hrgovic’s experience and overall ability above Fisher’s despite giving the edge in punching power to the British heavyweight
David Allen has offered a surprising assessment of Filip Hrgovic ahead of the Croatian’s August 29 clash with Moses Itauma. Despite being stopped by Hrgovic in three rounds, Allen says Johnny Fisher punches harder, while arguing that Hrgovic’s experience and skill make him the more complete heavyweight.
Allen was stopped in three rounds by Hrgovic last month, yet his assessment of the Croatian’s power may surprise some fans.
“Johnny Fisher hits harder, but he has not got the same output or experience,” said Allen on social media.
“Johnny Fisher hits really hard and harder than Hrgovic, but it’s just the experience, really. Hrgovic has got a lot of experience. He’s really good, Filip, to be fair to him, but Johnny Fisher hits harder.”
Few boxers are better qualified to compare the pair than Allen, who has recently faced both men. Fisher failed to stop Allen in their first meeting and was knocked out in five rounds in the rematch, while Hrgovic halted Allen inside three rounds.
Rather than pointing to raw punching power, Allen identified Hrgovic’s experience, work rate, and overall skill level as the qualities that separate him from many of the heavyweights he has faced.
That experience may be Hrgovic’s biggest advantage against Itauma, who has yet to share the ring with a heavyweight of his caliber. For Hrgovic, it is an opportunity to derail boxing’s fastest-rising heavyweight prospect. For Itauma, it is a chance to prove he belongs among the division’s elite.
