Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre Predicts Errol Spence Jr. Vs. Tim Tszyu, Adds One Major Warning

Terence Crawford’s trainer believes a vintage Spence beats Tszyu, yet says nobody knows how much the former unified champion has left after nearly three years away

Brian “BoMac” McIntyre believes Errol Spence Jr. has the tools to beat Tim Tszyu, but only if the former unified welterweight champion can recapture his old form. With Spence returning after almost three years out of the ring, McIntyre says the biggest question is what remains of the 35-year-old.

BoMac, who masterminded Crawford’s victory, was asked how he sees the comeback fight playing out.

“That’s gonna be a great fight. If Errol’s gonna be himself, he should win, but we don’t know what he got left. If Tim comes in and is himself, he’ll push Errol to the edge,” McIntyre said to FightHype.

Although he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Spence after such a lengthy layoff, McIntyre still leaned toward the American when asked if the bout was an even matchup.

“No, I don’t think so. I think Errol probably will win.”

McIntyre’s comments echo concerns raised by several other boxing analysts. Former world champion Sergio Mora recently questioned whether Spence can absorb punishment after the beating he took against Crawford, while pointing to the long period of inactivity as another major concern.

Tszyu rebounded from losses to Bakhram Murtazaliev and Sebastian Fundora by stopping Joey Spencer before adding decision wins over Anthony Velazquez and Denis Nurja. None of those comeback opponents were considered among the leading names at junior middleweight, making Spence his toughest test since the Fundora rematch.
