Andre Ward Admits Carl Froch Hurt Him After Super Six Fight

Ward revealed Froch’s body punching left him struggling physically for days after their 2011 showdown

Andre Ward says Carl Froch’s body punching left him hurting long after their 2011 Super Six fight ended. The unbeaten former champion admitted he could barely move for days afterward because of the punishment Froch landed downstairs.

“I was blocking the right to the head pretty good, but you got long arms, man, you kept hitting me with the straight to the body, and I took it, but I was full of adrenaline and all of that,” Ward said. “When the fight was over, [it hurt],” said Ward to the YouTube channel All the Smoke.

“I remember being on the plane with my family, and I could barely move, probably for like a week, man. I probably had a bruised rib or something like that, man. So, I have got to give you credit for that. I thought I was going to take that to the grave, but I will give you that.”

The exchange became one of the more noticeable moments from the lengthy interview because Ward rarely speaks publicly about opponents hurting him physically during his unbeaten professional career. Ward retired in 2017 with a 32-0 record after wins over fighters such as Sergey Kovalev, Mikkel Kessler, and Froch.

Froch, now nearing 50, still occasionally revisits the fight during interviews and podcast appearances, though the rivalry has cooled significantly over the years. Ward has also moved away from mainstream television boxing coverage after previously working as an analyst for ESPN, spending more of his time in the YouTube boxing space and podcast circuit.

Their 2011 meeting remains one of the signature fights from the Super Six era, with Ward handing Froch one of only two defeats of his professional career.
