Lundy returns May 31st at Mohegan Sun

photo by Jerry Coli – If none of the world champions with the coveted hardware are willing to bring the fight to top-ranked challenger Hank Lundy, then the flashy Philadelphia slugger will continue to force the issue.

No one in the 135- or 140-pound division has answered the call yet, but Lundy (24-3-1, 11 KOs) remains one of the busiest fighters in boxing. The 5-foot-7 lightweight, more commonly known as “Hammerin'” Hank, will return to the ring Saturday, May 31st, 2014 when he battles Mexican veteran Pipino Cuevas Jr. in the main event of Classic Entertainment & Sports’ star-studded pro-am boxing event at Mohegan Sun.

“The whole idea is to stay busy, and stay sharp,” said Lundy, who is only three months removed from a huge win over Angelo Santana in front of a worldwide audience on Showtime’s ShoBox: The Next Generation. “That way, when I get the call to fight for a world title, I’ll be ready to fight right then and there.”

Hank Lundy Impresses With Unanimous Decision But Amir Imam Steals The Show Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation

Hank Lundy Impresses With Unanimous Decision But Amir Imam Steals The Show Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation

Hank Lundy may now finally get his shot at a world title.

Lundy once again traveled on the road and scored an impressive unanimous decision over previously once-beaten Angelo Santana in Friday’s main event of ShoBox: The New Generation at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio

Santana (14-2, 11 KOs), once considered a can’t-miss prospect, was coming off a surprising knockout loss in his last bout and was taking what many considered to be a risky move in facing a veteran opponent. Lundy (23-3-1, 11 KOs) proved to be too much for the Cuban-born lightweight. He established himself as the aggressor and exposed his opponent as a limited fighter as Santana faded in the middle rounds.

Lundy defeats Olusegun

lundy12Hank Lundy (23-3-1, 11 KO’s) showed a great deal of improvement tonight in pulling off a minor upset in defeating Ajose Olusegun (31-2, 14 KO’s) by a fairly one-sided 10 round unanimous decision at the Rockingham Park, in Salem, New Hampshire, USA. Lundy fought a lot like Floyd Mayweather Jr. in beating what turned out to be an over-matched Olusegun by the judges scores of 100-90, 98-92, 98-92.

Lundy hurt Olusegun multiple times in the fight with hard left hands to head. Olusegun had no defense for Lundy’s left hands, and he was eating them continuously from the 4th.

Lundy found out early in the fight that he could counter Olusegun when he’d throw jabs. He’d wait on the jabs and fire a left hand and nail Olusegun. In the 4th round, Lundy hit Olusegun with some big left hands. At point he went to the ropes after getting hit and faked like he was shaken up.

By Jeff Sorby: The fight between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) and challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) has been moved from January 19th to March 2nd due to Brook injuring one of his ankles and needing more time for it to heal. The January 19th fight card will still go ahead, but it will be now headlined by WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) defending his title against lightweight Hank Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KO’s) at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
