Rafael Marquez suffers injury, fight with Wilfredo Vazquez Jr postponed

“The War” between former two time world champion Rafael Marquez and former super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. on August 4 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, was postponed due to an injury suffered by Marquez in his right hand.

“Rafael Marquez is injured and he will not fight on August 4 because he needs recovery and we have postponed the show”, Peter Rivera, PR Best Boxing Promotions vice-president, said. “This happens in boxing. We have the same situation in 2010 when Marquez was going to fight against Juanma Lopez. He suffered an injury and the fight was postponed from September to November”.

Rivera said that “we have a tentative date, October 6 in the same venue, coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. We are working from now for this card”.

As for the fight between former world titlist, Roman “Rocky” Martinez and Miguel Beltran Jr., for the WBO NABO junior lightweight title, Rivera said that “we are looking to make this bout in late August”.
