Quigg could be fighting in world title eliminator if he can beat Arthur on Saturday

By Michael Collins: British super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (23-0, 16 KO’s) is looking to accomplish some big things if he can get past Jamie Arthur (18-5, 4 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, Lanchashire, UK. Quigg, 23, is ranked #3 WBA, #3 IBF, and could be fighting in a world eliminator bout in his next fight if his promoters are able to line up a fight.

The title to go after would be the IBF super bantamweight belt held down by champion Taskalani Ndlovu. If Quigg can get a title eliminator against #2 ranked Jeffery Mathebula, he’d have a pretty good chance of becoming the mandatory challenger for champion Ndlovu. That would be the better option because he probably won’t get a chance of fighting the winner of the Nonito Donaire vs. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. bout for the vacant WBO title. Quigg needs to stay away from WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux because he’s too good and that’s not a winnable fight for Quigg. He’d also have a lot of problems with WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka.

Quigg also wants to go after the European super bantamweight title held by Kiko Martinez. Quigg told Sky Sports News “Martinez is a strong come-forward fighter and with the power he possesses he’s a dangerous fighter…I think I’ve got his number.”

Martinez is a good choice for Quigg to make if he can’t land the world title eliminator bout. But if he can get that fight, then he needs to put that in the rearview mirror and focus on the eliminator.

Carl Frampton, the Commonwealth super bantamweight champion, has been calling out Quigg lately for a fight. However, Frampton is clearly a step below Quigg in talent and he shouldn’t waste time fighting this guy because Quigg has better things to do than facing and beating up on a guy clearly beneath him.
