BunceLive Tickets go on sale today

bunceTouring the UK and Ireland, BunceLive brings the format of Steve Bunce’s enormously popular boxing show to a live audience for the first time, allowing fight fans to get up close and personal with one of boxing’s most outspoken personalities. The show is designed to be an entertaining and interactive experience for every boxing fan with anecdotes, surprise special guests, an epic boxing quiz tournament and no shortage of rants.

For those unfamiliar with the man affectionately known as “Big Daddy”, Buncey has been writing about boxing since 1985.

He has been at five Olympic games and at fights in Las Vegas 52 times. He has been in the Yemen with Naseem Hamed, in Louisville with Muhammad Ali and in Philly with Bernard Hopkins. He wrote Michael Watson’s autobiography.. He still has a live boxing hour on BBC Five Live each month – it has been running since 2004. He was sued and banned by Mickey Duff. He has twice been voted the WBU’s boxing writer of the year, once the WBO writer and once the IBO writer – Buncey has failed on all four occasions to collect his reward.

He was ringside in Derby for Joe Calzaghe’s first title win and ringside in Atlantic City for George Foreman’s last fight. Buncey tracked down and found Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter in 1997 – it was Carter’s first one-on-one interview with a British boxing writer.

As an amateur boxer he fought on the same night as Frank Bruno on three occasions at khazi venues in South London (Cat’s Whiskers, being one) – twice finishing his fights quicker than Bruno. His boyhood boxing heroes were his peers: Errol Christie and Gary Jackymelon. He bunked off school for weeks to watch John Conteh train for Jorge Ahumada, at the Cafe Royal.

At ringside in the early days he grafted next to legends like Ken Mays (The Daily Telegraph), Harry Mullan (Boxing News) and Wally Bartleman (Evening Standard). Mullan nominated Bunce for the NUJ, back when being a member was the ONLY way to get a ringside press pass.

The BunceLive tour will be landing at venues from Cork to Sunderland in a 12 week tour that commences September 22nd. The venues are intimate so interested parties should get tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
