The 2006 National Golden Gloves Championships to Kick off

(OMAHA, NEB.) – Over 300 of the nation’s top boxers from across the country will travel to Omaha, Neb., April 24-30, for the 2006 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. 2004 Olympian Rau’shee Warren (Cincinnati, Ohio) is scheduled to compete in his first-ever National Golden Gloves in Omaha..

Numerous national champions and former Golden Gloves titlists will convene in an elite amateur boxing event in Nebraska. Two-time Golden Gloves champions Jeremy Bryan (Cllifton, N.J.) and Daniel Jacobs (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will look to grab their third straight Golden Gloves titles as they compete in the light welterweight and middleweight divisions respectively. 2005 Light Flyweight champion Roberto Ceron (Doraville, Ga.) will travel to Omaha in search of his second straight title. In addition, 2006 U.S. Championships light flyweight champion Luis Yanez (Duncanville, Texas) and two-time U.S. Championships gold medalist Demetrius Andrade (Providence, R.I.) will both compete for their first-ever Golden Gloves title.

Former National Golden Gloves champions include Joe Louis, Cassius Clay, Sugar Ray Leonard, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones, Jr., Floyd Mayweather, Jr., and Jermain Taylor.

Bouts will begin at 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and will commence at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets range from $6-$10 for preliminary bouts Monday-Thursday, $8-$17 for semifinal competition and $10-$20 for championship bouts. Student discounts available with Student I.D. Military personnel and families receive free admission to Thursday, April 27 preliminary bouts with Military I.D.
