Guess Who’s Back?

31.03.05 – He’s every Scottish boxer’s nightmare and he’s coming back to Edinburgh! Manchester’s Michael Gomez will be ringside on April 8 at the Meadowbank Stadium to watch his previous conquests Alex Arthur and Craig Docherty fight it out for his old British Super-Featherweight crown..

Not content with battering Kilmarnock’s Ian McLeod into retirement, hammering Glaswegian Docherty inside two rounds, battling with Edinburgh golden boy Arthur to a fifth round KO – that was nominated fight of the year – and issuing a challenge to WBO World Featherweight champ Scott Harrison, the Mad Manc is eyeing a return with the winner of Arthur v Docherty.

The two-time British champion has moved up to the lightweight division but he is willing to drop back down again to take on the winner.

“They thought I would just go away but I’m still here and I’ll fight the winner,” stormed Gomez.

“Even though I’m at lightweight now, I will make a special exception and come back to super-feather and fight the winner,”

“If it really came down to a choice I would prefer to take Arthur again because I don’t like him one bit for everything he’s been saying since I beat him,”

The 28-year-old believes that Arthur will beat Docherty though.

“I think it’s a cracking fight between the best in Scotland but I think that Arthur will beat Docherty because he hits too hard for him,”

“Docherty marks up too easily as you saw against Boris Sinitsin and Arthur is too heavy handed for him.”

“Either way, whoever wins, I’ll be waiting for them!”

Even if he doesn’t fight Arthur or Docherty again, Gomez is already looking at another Scotsman at lightweight…undefeated Ricky Burns from Coatbridge who features on the card!

Billed as ‘FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE!’, Arthur-Docherty headline a superb card that also features rising Edinburgh welterweight hot-shot Gary Young, Edinburgh bantamweight Scott Flynn, Glasgow welterweight Colin McNeil plus London heavyweight John McDermott and Welsh middleweight prospect Kerry Hope.
