AAPRP Announces Medical Review Board

Darien, Connecticut –February 23, 2005, – The American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians (AAPRP) announced today the creation of a medical review board. At the urging of boxers, managers, promoters and commissioners, the AAPRP has developed a medical review board to address and render opinions on medical issues pertaining to boxing medicine..

The AAPRP Medical Review Board is comprised of multi-specialty ringside physicians who are experienced in boxing medicine. The board will review medical issues on a case by case basis and render opinions only. The opinions offered are intended to provide information to boxing community and in no way should supplant the physician-patient relationship or medical examination. Individuals seeking a medical opinion from this board should always seek the advice of a physician or other health care provider for any questions or issues they may have pertaining to a specific medical condition or complaint. In addition, decisions and opinions of this board are not binding in any jurisdiction unless directed by that specific commission or agency.

Dr. Michael Schwartz, AAPRP Chairman stated, “We hope that the AAPRP Medical Review Board will enable boxers and commissioners a method to evaluate complex medical issues by utilizing the expertise of ringside physicians. This is another example of how the AAPRP can assist in promoting safety in boxing.” Inquiries will be reviewed at the discretion of the board.
