SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- World Boxing Organization (WBO) president, Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel, announced today the appointment of Jose R. Izquierdo II, Esq., as the new WBO Excecutive Committee Secretary.
“We are confident that his vast legal experience will be the asset that allows you to keep our Organization in the privileged position it proudly holds within the boxing world. Congratulations and welcome to your new position”, Valcarcel said to Izquierdo II.
Izquierdo II is an attorney in private practice in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He recently served as Assistant Secretary and Director of Legal and Legislative Affairs at the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico, where he coordinated all aspects of the department and its umbrella agencies’ legislative agenda and of other major public policy matters. During this time, Izquierdo II developed and implemented strategies for the approval of pivotal incentives programs devised to improve Puerto Rico’s competitive position in the export services, international finance and insurance, energy reform, film and creative services sectors, among others.
Izquierdo II received a BA in History and Latin American and Iberian Studies from Haverford College, Haverford, PA, in 2005, having also spent a year studying International History and Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science. As an undergraduate, Izquierdo II was selected for a prestigious White House internship.
After gaining considerable experience as advisor to various key legislative committees, Izquierdo II received a JD from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 2011, where he was a staff editor of the UPR Law Review, class president, and president of the Federal Bar Association.
Izquierdo II has been part of the WBO Executive Committee since the first months of 2013.
