DOVER, Del.—Amir “Hardcore” Mansour continued to make his case for bouts against top-ranked heavyweights by easily stopping Jason Gavern in the first round of their fight Friday night at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. Mansour, now 18-0-0 with 14 knockouts, claimed his eighth KO victim in his last nine fights. He equally distributed punishment from his left and right hands to quickly send Gavern to the canvass four times before the fight was stopped at 2:43 in the opening round.
Gavern, whose record fell to 21-14-4, was a late substitute for Devin Vargas. The 2004 U.S. Olympian pulled out just a week before the Mansour fight due to a training injury.
With the win, Mansour retained his NABA and WBF Intercontinental titles.
