(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – The third qualifying event for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing began with a quick night on Monday at City Auditorium in Colorado Springs. The men’s light welterweight division kicked off tournament action with five first round bouts on the opening day of competition.
The day started with the general weigh-in early on Monday morning followed by the tournament draw in all 13 weight divisions. All of the participants learned their route to gold and Olympic Trials berth at the draw and the 13 brackets can be found via this link: http://t.co/dfe4wlTQVE.

Five boxers claimed victories on a short opening night in the Pikes Peak region. Light welterweight Richardson Hitchins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored the first victory of the tournament, winning a unanimous decision over David Mijares (Pasadena, Calif.) in their preliminary round match-up.
All of Monday’s victors will return to action on Tuesday night along with the 75 boxers making their tournament debuts.
Preliminary round action will run through Thursday prior to semifinal competition on Friday and the tournament finals on Saturday at City Auditorium. The two finalists in the men’s weight classes and top three finishers in the three women’s Olympic weight divisions will clinch Olympic Trials berths.
