Upton To Challenge Hughes For English Title

Dan Mole - 12/11/2015

Anthony Upton and Joe Hughes clash for the English Super Lightweight Title on Hatton Promotions, in association with Black Country Boxing’s, ‘Jingle Brawls’ show next month.

Hughes, the current holder of the belt following his split decision victory over Anthony Hardy back in July, will travel to Walsall to take on unbeaten prospect, Upton.

‘Jingle Brawls’ takes place at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, 5th December with Ricky Hatton trained Upton topping the bil alongside two of his stablemates – welterweight duo Sam Evans and Reuben Arrowsmith.

Upton versus Hughes is an intriguing encounter. Upton, one third of the Upton Clan, is unbeaten in his opening 11 contests whilts Hughes has tasted defeat just once in 14 contests.

Market Harborough’s Arrowsmith will be looking to build on his impressive professional debut victory over former Midlands Champion, Kevin McCauley, last month whilst Wednesbury-boirn Evans will be hoping for a second successive stoppage after putting Zaurs Sadihovs to the sword on his pro debut, also last month.

Birmingham middleweight Luke Heron (Walker) faces Polish road warrior, Robert Strudzinski. Heron stole the show as he stopped fellow debutant, Bryn Wain, on his pro bow at Walsall Town Hall last month.

West Bromwich middleweight, Tom Stokes, is looking to make up for lost time. The 20 year-old returned from an 18 month lay-off to defeat Kieron Gray at the Town Hall last month and is back at the scene of the crime. Stokes takes on Plymouth’s Cristian Hoskins-Gomes.

Stoke super lightweight, Kieron McLaren, steps in with for English title challenger, Liam Richards, whilst West Bromwich super featherweight, Jack Summers, will be looking to make it a hat-trick of professional wins when he takes on St. Helens’ Ian Halsall.
Unbeaten Ludlow light middleweight, Craig Morris, is also in action as he takes on Atherton’s William Warburton.

Completing the card is Wolverhampton super featherweight, Des Bowater, who is set to take on Gloucester’s Andy Harris.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.

The aftershow party and weigh-in will take place at Makoto Bar, Bridge Street, Walsall.
