CHICAGO, IL (MARCH 7, 2013) – The Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) and the Associação Nacional de Boxe (A.N.B) announced today the formation of a strategic partnership which will build upon the history of both sanctioning bodies. Details of the partnership are still being worked out at this time, but one thing is already set in stone: both organizations’ desires to morally and ethically promote the sport in a positive, respectable manner.
This news comes right on the heels of a rather busy February for the young organization. “February…what a month for us…after a rather sad beginning with Omar [Henry] passing, we had some significant moments. I feel we have some good, positive energy going here and it only makes sense to carry this momentum into March” said Richard Spilotro, UBF founder.
Indeed, the momentum seems to be headed in the right direction. After Omar Henry was posthumously named the honorary UBF Junior Middleweight World Champion on February 8th, a week later Donatas Bondorovas captured the inaugural UBF All-America middleweight championship(February 15th). The next day, UBF women’s super featherweight champion, Amanda Serrano, went down in weight to add the UBF featherweight belt to her collection as well. Now with the announcement of the A.N.B. merger just a few days into March, there’s no rest for one of the premier rising organizing bodies in professional boxing.
