Well known Australian Heavyweight boxer Bowie Tupou (24/3) has signed to fight highly rated Tanzanian Benki Mwakalebela (11/1) for the WBO African Regional title in Sydney on the 27th March 2015 with Neutral Corner Fight Promotions at Club Punchbowl.
Managers for Tupou KO Promotions have confirmed that the African title fight had been locked in after they were dodged by WBO world number 2 Andy Ruiz Jnr for a fight in Macau on the 7th March this year.
“We had agreed on terms with Ruiz after they approached us, but they pulled out” Mark Low of KO Promotions said today.
Bowie Tupou has had two wins from two fights since returning to Australia after a 6-year stint in the USA based in Las Vegas
“He is training well and we hope to get into the WBO world rankings” Tupou’s trainer Billy Fine from South Sydney PCYC said.
Bowie is currently in a training camp in Sydney sparing with some big names in boxing and sport getting ready for the fight.
