Tuesday Night Fights, a unique Philadelphia boxing event that will feature the best young talent in the Delaware Valley, will make its debut on Tuesday, July 29, at 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.
Presented by Joe Hand Promotions and D and D Management, Tuesday Night Fights will showcase both amateur boxers and professional fighters representing various boxing gyms throughout the Delaware Valley. The plan is to make Tuesday Night Fights a monthly event at 2300 Arena.
On July 29, the card will feature five professional fights and four amateur bouts.
Highlighting the professional card is a six-round middleweight match between Fred Jenkins Jr. (7-1-1) of ABC Rec Center in North Philadelphia and Jeremy Trussell (8-1-1) from Baltimore, Md. Also, Keith Downs (2-0), representing the Willingboro Recreation Center, faces Robert Sweeney (2-0) from the Marian Anderson Rec Center, South Philadelphia, in a four-round middleweight contest.
A couple of accomplished amateur fighters, junior lightweight Avery Sparrow and junior middleweight Donte Wright, both from the Joe Hand Boxing Gym, will make their pro debuts.
In 2013, Sparrow, who went 45-8 as an amateur, placed seventh at the USA Boxing National Championships in Spokane, WA. He also reached the quarterfinals at the Junior Olympic National Tournament at Camp Lejeune, NC, in 2010.
Wright, who collected 160 amateur wins, won the Philadelphia District Golden Gloves Tournament four times, the National PAL Tournament and was named Outstanding Fighter in the Philadelphia Diamond Belt Tournament.
The night’s featured amateur bout will match National Golden Gloves champion Christian Carto (Rosati’s Gym, Philadelphia) against Dante Brown (Washington, D.C.) in a three-round 110-pound contest.
Other amateur bouts include:
· Khalil Miller (ABC Rec) vs. Tom Hogan (Philadelphia Fight Firm), 201 pounds
· Brian Walton (Camden ) vs. Hanif Webb (ABC Rec), 141 pounds
· Jackie McTamney (Joe Hand Gym) vs. Kayla Hracho (DC Fitness, Reading, PA)
“This event provides an opportunity for young boxers, who, before now, only dreamed of entering a ring and seeing their hard work pay off,” said Joe Hand Sr., owner of the Joe Hand Boxing Gym in Northern Liberties. “Now we can show the young boxers that the dream can become a reality.”
